Seeking to understand who we are, who we were and who we aspire to be.

"The humanities keep me healthy... they give me my daily doses of wonder, argument, humility, beauty, and justice." — NMHC donor Brian Crockett

The New Mexico Humanities Council needs YOU!

Without the generous support of New Mexicans and lovers of the humanities like you, the New Mexico Humanities Council would not be able to offer and support community programming that brings the wonderful people of our great state together.  Urban and rural, in-person and virtually, through panels and performances, the NMHC keeps the humanities accessible for New Mexicans throughout our state and beyond. Your contribution is a big part of making that happen.  Consider making a donation to help the NMHC continue its mission to understand who we are, who we were, and who we aspire to be.

The New Mexico Humanities Council engages New Mexicans with the humanities through cultural traditions, reflecting on history, storytelling and more. We also engaged students across the state in programming focused on learning about primary sources. Through partnerships we have expanded efforts to record oral histories, preserve langauges, support libraries, and create spaces for people to gather to share ideas.

SERVING NEW MEXICO SINCE 1972

Since 1972, the New Mexico Humanities Council (NMHC) has been engaging New Mexicans with history, culture and diverse humanities topics through Council-conducted public programs and grant funding for special projects.

The humanities explore human interaction and reflect on the experiences and meanings of life. By applying thought, reason and inquiry, we are able to understand and give meaning to our history and culture, connecting our past, present and future.

CELEBRATE AND LEARN ABOUT DIVERSE CULTURAL HISTORIES YEAR-ROUND

We seek to partner with organizations with programming that help us reflect on the human condition, our lived experiences, and the ties that unite us through culture, language, ethics, the environment and tradition. Through our engaging projects and programs, we invite public dialogue, celebrate the richness of diverse perspectives, and enrich the civic and cultural life of New Mexicans.  Donate today to help us continue to work with communities throughout the state, to use storytelling as a catalyst and to build bridges of understanding.
