Do you have a compelling program that explores history, culture and the humanities? We’re seeking dynamic speakers to apply for our Speakers Bureau, which brings engaging and thought provoking presentations to communities across our state.
As a speaker, you’ll have the opportunity to share your expertise with diverse audiences, from libraries and museums to schools and community centers. Programs should be humanities-based designed to spark inquiry, reflection and meaningful conversations.
Based on feedback from our partners, we are especially interested in programs on local and regional history, music, food traditions, poetry, bilingual presentations, oil and gas history, agricultural and homesteading in New Mexico, and Chautauqua-style performances that bring history and culture to life. We also welcome interactive programs that go beyond traditional Q&A, encouraging audience participation in unique ways.
In addition, we invite speakers who can engage audiences with underserved humanities disciplines such as philosophy, ethics, civic discussions on the U.S. Constitution and popular culture through a humanities lens-whether it’s literature, film, music, folklore. We aim to feature speakers from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines.
Current speakers are also welcome to submit new programs at this time if they would like to add to their list of offerings.
The New Mexico Humanities Council offers small scale, educational and entertaining humanities programs through its Speakers Bureau which allows NMHC to bring the humanities to more communities around the state.
What to Expect as a Speaker or Presenter
Speakers in our program have the opportunity to share their expertise with a variety of audiences, including libraries, museums, schools and community centers across the state. Those accepted into the roster may be booked by host organizations for speaking engagements, and honoraria are provided per event, plus reimbursement for mileage, lodging, and per diem at the federal rates. All presenters must be available to present in New Mexico, whether in person or virtually.
Programs should be engaging, educational, and accessible to a broad audience.
To apply, complete our online application with details about your program, audience engagement and relevant experience. Submit your application to Grants Manager and Speakers Bureau Manager, Keelyn Byram at: Keelyn@NMHumanities.org. For further information and inquiries, please contact her at the same address.
