Regional Competition Registration

Registration for regional competitions will open on January 1st. There will be an informational meeting for teachers, students, and parents on the competition process and expectations for the regional, state, and national levels. Details for the meeting will be announced soon. For any questions in the meantime, please reach out.

Contest Dates

  • The Southeast Regional: Friday, February 21, 2025, at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales.
  • The Southern Regional: Friday, February 28, 2025, in Silver City at Western New Mexico University.
  • The Northern Regional: returning to Santa Fe this year, the contest will take place on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the New Mexico History Museum.
  • The Central Regional: Friday, March 14, 2025, in Albuquerque at Central New Mexico (CNM) Main Campus.
  • NHD State Contest, Friday, April 11, 2025, in Albuquerque at CNM Main Campus.
  • NHD National Contest, June 8-12, 2025, at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Helping student historians and their teachers study the past to inform the present and shape the future.

ABOUT NATIONAL HISTORY DAY® (NHD):

NHD is a non-profit organization based in College Park, Maryland, that seeks to improve the teaching and learning of history. The National History Day Contest was established in 1974 and currently engages more than half a million students every year in conducting original research on historical topics of interest. Students present their research as a documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website. Projects compete first at the local and affiliate levels, where the top entries are invited to the National Contest at the University of Maryland at College Park. NHD is sponsored in part by, HISTORY®, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Park Service, Southwest Airlines, the Crown Family Foundation, The Better Angels Society, the Pritzker Military Museum and Library, and the Diana Davis Spencer Foundation.
